240 Films is about two cinema-obsessed ladies who like to rant about all things film and TV.
Hayley likes silent film, animation, and films where ladies get to be awesome. She doesn’t like misogyny masquerading as entertainment, torture-porn horrors or Jean-Luc Godard. She writes about food at Ballroom Blintz, and about all kinds of Melbourney things at Broadsheet. She spends far too much time thinking about Warren Beatty.
Jen likes a lot of good stuff, and a lot of stuff that is not. She thinks the majority of contemporary films that adopt the shaky camera affectation are pretentious, hackneyed, and lazy, and not only because they make her want to puke. Currently watching more television than movies, she actually likes a bit of Jean-Luc Godard now and then.
She also runs the blog Ritual Repetition.
About the Title “240 Films”
This is a reference to a quote from The Office (US Version) where Dwight says “I know everything about film. I’ve seen over 240 of them.” Jen wouldn’t know this because she’s only ever seen a handful of episodes of the US version of The Office, so credit for the title goes to Hayley.
